Why Kogi West should produce next gov, by Abejide

Kogi APC chieftain blasts ADC candidate

African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate for the November 11 governorship election in Kogi State, Leke Abejide, has appealed to the people of Kogi Central and Kogi East to concede the governorship to Kogi West Senatorial District.

Noting that Kogi West people cannot be treated as slaves to the other districts, Abejide said a situation where the east and central axes had produced governors for 19 and eight years respectively, demands that the west be considered this time.

The two-term House of Representatives member for Yagba Federal Constituency, spoke during his home-coming reception that took him round the three local councils in Yagba, namely Mopamuro, Yagba East and Yagba West.

Starting with a ‘thank you’ visit to the Elulu of Mopa, Oba Julius Joledo, on Friday, the event ended with the thanksgiving service in his hometown, Alu.

Abejide said: “We are not slaves, neither are we inferior to others in the state. We, in the West, have been supportive of other senatorial districts to be governors of the state. Now is our time.

“Some are saying I am only popular in Okun land. Let me assure you, when they get to other parts of the state, they will meet me there. The November governorship election is not about political parties alone, but the people. They gave us a state university and expect us to abandon our right to be governor of the state.” He wondered “why would anyone think giving Okun people a university will make us chicken out of the governorship race?

“For justice, both Kogi East and Kogi Central should, as a way of reciprocating our patience and kind gestures in the past and recent times, give Kogi West maximum support this time to lead the state, which Kogi East had led 19 years cumulatively and Kogi Central now rounding off eight years. It is natural to allow Kogi West, which has had zero years to have a bite this time,” he pleaded.
BUT All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain in the state, Mouktar Atimah, has slammed Abejide over what he described as misleading statements.

Atimah, in a statement, yesterday, claimed that the ADC candidate had been dishing out misleading information about Governor Yahaya Bello and the APC governorship candidate, Usman Ododo.

Condemning the statement credited to Abejide during one of his campaign tours that Governor Bello wants his kinsman to succeed him in office, he noted that the ADC candidate was being economical with the truth and should stop propagating falsehood to gain unmerited favour from the general public.
