NiMet forecasts 3-day thunderstorms, sunshine from Friday

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a weather forecast predicting thunderstorms and sunshine across the country.

According to NiMet’s latest weather update in Abuja on Thursday, the northern region is expected to experience a predominantly sunny weather pattern throughout Friday.

NiMet anticipates isolated thunderstorms in parts of Kebbi, Zamfara, and Kaduna states during the afternoon and evening hours.

In the North Central region, sunny skies with a few scattered clouds are forecasted for the morning period. Later in the day, isolated thunderstorms are likely in areas of Niger, the Federal Capital Territory, Kogi, and Kwara states.

Moving to the southern region, a mix of clouds and sunshine is expected, with more cloud cover along the coastal areas. Isolated thunderstorms may occur in regions of Lagos, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom in the morning.

As the day progresses, isolated thunderstorms are predicted over inland areas of the South West, including coastal regions of Lagos, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Delta, Rivers, and Bayelsa states.

On Saturday, NiMet projects sunny skies with scattered clouds in parts of the North West, while the North East is expected to be sunny and dry in the morning. Isolated thunderstorms could develop later in the day in parts of Kebbi, Zamfara, Taraba, and Kaduna states.

In the North Central region, a sunny weather outlook with a few clouds is forecasted for the morning hours. By midday, isolated thunderstorms may occur in parts of Niger, the Federal Capital Territory, Kogi, and Kwara states.

For the southern region, a cloudy day with intervals of sunshine is expected, especially along the coast. Isolated thunderstorms are likely in Ogun State in the morning and later in the day over parts of Imo, Abia, Enugu, Ebonyi, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Edo, Delta, Rivers, and Bayelsa states.

Sunday’s forecast includes sunny skies with scattered clouds in the northern region throughout the day. The North Central region may experience isolated thunderstorms in areas of Niger, the Federal Capital Territory, Kwara, and Kogi states during the morning hours.

Later in the day, isolated thunderstorms are expected in parts of Nasarawa, Niger, the Federal Capital Territory, and Plateau states.

In the southern region, a mix of clouds and sunshine is predicted, with increased cloud cover along the coast in the morning. By afternoon and evening, isolated thunderstorms are likely in Osun, Ondo, Ekiti, Rivers, Delta, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Lagos, and Bayelsa States.

NiMet advises the public to take precautions as strong winds may precede thunderstorms in affected areas. Airline operators are urged to stay updated on weather reports and forecasts for efficient operational planning.
