Meta expands AI services to Nigeria, six other African countries

Meta Platforms, Inc., the parent company overseeing social media giants such as Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram, has recently broadened its AI service, known as “Meta AI,” to Nigeria and an additional twelve nations.

Mark Zuckerberg’s corporation has also introduced these services to six other African countries, namely Ghana, South Africa, Malawi, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.

In addition to the African region, Meta has included Canada, Australia, Jamaica, New Zealand, Pakistan, and Singapore among the beneficiaries of the Meta AI expansion.

Beyond the borders of the United States, the current rollout, predominantly in English, aims to enhance connectivity and provide users with innovative, expressive, and productive tools seamlessly integrated within these popular applications.

This announcement was made by Meta in a detailed blog post on Thursday, highlighting the evolution of Meta AI from its initial introduction at last year’s Connect event into a versatile tool seamlessly blending into users’ daily routines.

Leveraging the Meta Llama 3 technology as its foundation, this AI empowers users to complete tasks, gain knowledge, nurture creativity, and establish connections effortlessly.

“We are introducing Meta AI in English across more than a dozen countries outside the US. Users in Australia, Canada, Ghana, Jamaica, Malawi, New Zealand, Nigeria, Pakistan, Singapore, South Africa, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe will now have access to Meta AI—and this is just the beginning,” the post emphasized.

Meta emphasized that with the advancements in Meta Llama 3, Meta AI has become more intelligent, faster, and more engaging than ever before.

The company declared that its latest AI is now the most sophisticated AI assistant available for free, accessible in multiple countries across its suite of apps.

By integrating the AI into feeds, chats, searches, and other app functionalities, users can efficiently accomplish tasks and access real-time information without leaving the app environment.

Additionally, Meta CEO, Zuckerberg, expressed, “With the expansion of Meta AI in English to new territories, we are thrilled to introduce our next-generation assistant to a broader audience, providing real-time information through seamless search integration in the beloved apps.”

“We have enhanced Meta AI with our new cutting-edge Llama 3 AI model, which we are making open-source. Furthermore, we have introduced unique creative features, such as the ability to animate photos.”

“The AI swiftly generates high-quality images, updating them in real-time as you type. It can also create a playback video showcasing your creation process.”
