Chief Philip Agbese, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and a lawmaker representing Ado/Okpokwu/Ogbadibo Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, recently justified his decision to appoint political opponents and adversaries based on their capacity and competence. He emphasized that the ability to deliver effectively takes precedence over other considerations. Agbese made this clarification in response to the reactions surrounding his appointment of non-APC members to his Parliament of Local Unity (PLU) group in his constituency. The lawmaker appointed over 20 new aides, including individuals from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP), and those he had perceived as adversaries. Agbese’s Special Adviser on Media and Public Affairs, Lawrence Oduh, highlighted that these appointments were a demonstration of Agbese’s inclusive approach, stating that Agbese harbors no enmity towards anyone. Oduh likened Agbese to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, who is known for his amiable nature and ability to connect with people from all walks of life. Agbese’s philosophy prioritizes humanity over personal interests, political affiliations, religion, and ethnicity, valuing capacity, excellence, and competence in his recent decisions. Through these appointments, he views everyone as a stakeholder in the development of Enone (his constituency). Oduh emphasized Agbese’s belief in serving others and building bonds in society through enduring values, highlighting the importance of peace, harmony, and compassion in today’s world. Agbese sees those traditionally considered adversaries as essential partners in progress and embraces the diversity within his constituency, aiming to represent all constituents, regardless of background or affiliation. Oduh further stated that Agbese’s core principles revolve around unity and inclusivity, emphasizing that Agbese serves the interests of all constituents, irrespective of social status, beliefs, or political leanings. Agbese’s message to those attempting to undermine him is one of forgiveness and prayer, urging all patriotic individuals in Enone to support his efforts, promising that his service will benefit everyone in the community.
