Ensure locally manufactured vehicles’re of highest quality, affordable – Tinubu to automotive manufacturers

President Bola Tinubu has called upon automotive manufacturers to prioritize the production of locally manufactured vehicles that are of top-notch quality and have enduring durability.

Furthermore, President Tinubu encouraged the manufacturers to focus on creating vehicles that are accessible and affordable to all segments of the Nigerian population.

The President conveyed this message during a courtesy visit at the presidential villa in Abuja by the African Association of Automotive Manufacturers and the Nigerian Automotive Manufacturers Association. The delegation, led by the Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment, Ms. Doris Uzoka-Anite, was warmly received by the Chief of Staff to the President, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila.

Expressing gratitude for the audience granted to them, the delegation affirmed their dedication to supporting the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda. It comprised key figures such as the Director-General of the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC), representatives from the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), and executive directors from Stallion Group, Toyota/CEAO, and Nissan.

During the visit, the spokesperson for one of the associations highlighted the ongoing initiatives to kickstart the production of vehicles and spare parts within Nigeria. They also informed the Chief of Staff about a legislative bill aimed at driving the automotive industry, currently under review by the Federal Ministry of Justice.

The delegation stressed the importance of advancing the automotive sector, citing its potential to generate substantial employment opportunities for Nigerian youths and reduce the country’s reliance on foreign exchange.

In a statement released by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Chief Ajuri Ngelale, it was mentioned that the Chief of Staff assured the delegation of the President’s unwavering commitment to industrializing Nigeria, evident through the various policies being implemented.

He pledged to support the swift passage of the legislative bill and emphasized the necessity for locally manufactured vehicles to meet high-quality standards, aligning with the government’s initiatives to revitalize the industry.

Additionally, he urged the associations to focus on producing vehicles that are affordable for all segments of the Nigerian population. This call comes at a time when President Bola Tinubu is poised to introduce consumer credit schemes to enable millions of Nigerians to purchase vehicles and other essential goods and services.
