Erling Haaland netted four goals as Manchester City moved closer to an unprecedented fourth consecutive Premier League title with a resounding 5-1 victory over Wolves at the Etihad Stadium.
Earlier in the day, Arsenal’s 3-0 triumph over Bournemouth had initially given them a four-point lead in the title race. However, City responded emphatically, reducing the gap to just one point with three games remaining compared to Arsenal’s two.
Despite facing criticism for not replicating his exceptional first season at City, where he scored 52 goals during a treble-winning campaign, Haaland showcased his prowess by taking his tally for the current season to 36 goals in 41 appearances.
Reinstated to the starting lineup by manager Pep Guardiola after a brief injury spell, Haaland proved his worth with a clinical display, including converting two first-half penalties and completing a hat-trick against Wolves.
City’s unbeaten home run extended to 43 games as they overwhelmed Wolves, who had previously handed City one of their rare league defeats this season.
Haaland’s four-goal performance seemingly secured him the Golden Boot, with his 25 Premier League goals comfortably ahead of his closest competitors. Despite being substituted late in the game, Haaland expressed dissatisfaction at being taken off, as Julian Alvarez added a final goal to seal City’s victory.
With an unbeaten streak of 19 Premier League matches and minimal dropped points in recent months, City appear determined to clinch the title, setting their sights on securing a historic fourth consecutive English top-flight championship.
