Macron ‘counting on Real Madrid’ to let Mbappe play at Olympics

President Macron expressed his hope for Real Madrid to release Kylian Mbappe for the Olympic Games, enabling him to join the French national team. Macron’s statement was shared in a video on X, previously known as Twitter.

Mbappe recently announced his departure from Paris Saint-Germain at the conclusion of the current season, with Real Madrid being strongly speculated as his next destination.

Despite Real Madrid indicating that they will not exempt their players from club duties to participate in the Olympics, which are not classified as FIFA-sanctioned international competitions requiring player release, there is anticipation surrounding Mbappe’s potential involvement.

The 25-year-old football star, who clinched the World Cup with France and serves as the team’s captain, previously mentioned that he was not giving much thought to the Olympic Games.

Mbappe is set to lead France in the Euro 2024 tournament scheduled from June 14 to July 14 in Germany. Concurrently, the Olympic football event kicks off on July 24 and extends until August 9, with France placed in a group alongside the United States, New Zealand, and another yet-to-be-determined team.
