Biafra Day: Don’t destroy our future, students tell IPOB, as WAEC exams hold in Enugu

The examinations for General Mathematics in the ongoing Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination, conducted by the West African Examination Council (WAEC), proceeded smoothly in Enugu State despite the warnings by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

A thorough inspection of various examination centers throughout the state indicated that the exams were conducted peacefully.

Students expressed their dissatisfaction with the initial attempts to disrupt the General Mathematics papers and emphasized the importance of safeguarding their future.

The Enugu State Government had denounced IPOB’s call for the examinations to be postponed and students to stay indoors on May 30th, designated as “Biafra Heroes Day.”

In a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Communication, the government stressed the significant implications of the potential cancellation of the General Mathematics papers for candidates in the state and the entire South East region, urging WAEC and students to proceed with the exams under the assured security measures.

At Ideal Comprehensive College in Enugu, the principal and a student commended the security measures implemented by the governor, ensuring a secure environment for the exams.

The plea for the preservation of their future resonated at Girls Secondary School in Trans Ekulu, with the principal highlighting the successful and peaceful conduct of the examination.

Students across various schools reiterated their commitment to their education and future, emphasizing the need to reject actions, such as sit-at-home orders, that could jeopardize their learning and progress.

The school authorities and supervisors affirmed the seamless execution of the examinations, crediting the government for providing adequate security measures and ensuring a conducive environment for the students to focus on their exams.

Overall, the prevailing message from the students and school officials underscores the importance of stability, unity, and peace in safeguarding the future of the younger generation and advancing educational pursuits across Enugu State.
