Monarchs raise alarm over non-issuance of NIC to Deltans

The Traditional Rulers Council in Delta State (DSTRC) has voiced its profound apprehension regarding the protracted process of registering and distributing permanent National Identity cards to the people of Delta.

During the meeting of monarchs in Asaba, the Chairman of the Council, Major-General Felix Mujakpuero (Rtd) Orhue 1, representing the Okpe Kingdom, underscored this concern in a comprehensive 4-point statement, emphasizing the urgent need for the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) in Delta to accelerate the registration process, ensuring prompt issuance of permanent National Identity cards to Deltans.

Furthermore, the DSTRC extended accolades to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for effectively hosting the 13th Extraordinary General Assembly of the South-South Monarch’s Forum in Asaba. Additionally, they invoked divine intervention, praying for the Governor’s fortitude and safeguarding, acknowledging his tireless endeavors in propelling the State’s progression.

In addition to acknowledging Governor Oborevwori’s 61st birthday anniversary, the Council implored divine blessings, protection, and heightened discernment for the Governor as he steers the state towards prosperity.

The esteemed royal leaders also seized the opportunity to pay a visit to the wife and members of the Royal family of the late Asagba of Asaba and former Council Chairman, Obi Professor Chike Edozien. During the visit, the Orodje of Okpe extolled the late Asagba’s leadership and inspirational attributes, encouraging the monarch’s family to seek solace in the profound impact left by the departed, commemorating his enduring legacy.

Expounding on the late monarch’s significant contributions, the 1st vice Chairman of the Council and Pere of Akugbene Mien, Luke SP Kalanama V111, highlighted the pivotal advocacy role played by the late ruler in championing for constitutional roles for Traditional Rulers prior to his demise.

In response, one of the late Asagba’s sons, Engineer Louis Edozien, conveyed gratitude on behalf of the family, expressing appreciation to the Traditional Rulers for the visit while also sharing that the burial rites of the monarch will culminate on the 28th of the current month.

Dignitaries attending the visit included Traditional Rulers from various parts of the state, including the immediate past Chairman of the council and Obi of OWA, Dr. Emmanuel.
