The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, has taken a proactive step by establishing a specialized task force to combat touting and extortion at airports nationwide.
Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, the Managing Director of FAAN, announced that Mr. Henry Agbebire, the Director of Special Duties at FAAN, has been appointed as the task force chairman to lead the charge against these illegal activities that tarnish the airport experience for passengers.
Speaking at a press conference in Lagos, Kuku expressed profound concern regarding the ongoing harassment and extortion that passengers face at airports, emphasizing the urgent need to address these issues.
She highlighted her determination to personally engage with all government agencies operating within airports to ensure strict adherence to anti-touting and anti-extortion protocols. Kuku made it clear that the days of turning a blind eye to such misconduct are over, underscoring FAAN’s unwavering commitment to a zero-tolerance approach towards malpractice.
In a bid to expedite legal proceedings against offenders, Kuku disclosed plans to establish magistrate courts at international airports. Furthermore, a dedicated task force has been assigned the responsibility of upholding discipline among airport staff and fostering a culture of professionalism within the airport environment.
Kuku outlined additional measures aimed at enhancing passenger experience and ensuring accountability among airport personnel. These include the implementation of dedicated phone lines and QR codes for passenger feedback, the mandatory display of on-duty cards and name tags by airport personnel, and FAAN’s firm dedication to delivering exceptional service while prioritizing the safety and security of all passengers and airport users.
