Netherlands hit by travel chaos ahead of Euro 2024 semi

The pre-match press conference scheduled by the Netherlands ahead of their Euro 2024 semi-final clash against England on Wednesday was called off on Tuesday following disruptions to their travel arrangements.

The Dutch national team, led by Ronald Koeman, had originally planned to journey from Wolfsburg to Dortmund via train, only to face travel impediments due to a track obstruction.

Consequently, the Dutch squad had to resort to air travel as an alternative, causing them to arrive late and consequently be unable to fulfill their media obligations.

A communication from the Dutch football association stated, “Due to unforeseen disruptions to the Netherlands’ scheduled team transit to Dortmund, their arrival has been significantly delayed, leading to the cancellation of the press conference.”

England manager Gareth Southgate expressed confidence that the travel disruption would not impact the outcome of the semi-final match.

“We have ample time before our 9pm (1900GMT) kickoff tomorrow. I believe they will still manage to have dinner upon their arrival,” remarked Southgate during his own pre-match media briefing.

He added, “With plenty of time on their hands, I do not anticipate any adverse effects on the game.”
