Warri: Police and various security personnel have maintained a prominent presence in the twin cities of Warri and Uvwie since the #endhunger# protests began last week in Ughelli, Sapele, and other regions of the country.
It is important to note that following directives from several civil society groups, mass protests against hunger were launched in multiple locations across the nation last Thursday.
Last Saturday, a small group of youths attempted to hold a peaceful march around the Effurun roundabout area but were reportedly pressured to abandon their plans.
On Monday, several police patrol vehicles were stationed near the Effurun roundabout, with two additional vehicles at the Airport junction and three more at the DSC roundabout.
The police presence in strategic areas of Warri and Uvwie did not disrupt economic activities in the cities. Banks operated normally, many shops remained open, and commercial Keke operators continued their services.
Some officers were seen in their patrol vehicles, while others were sitting at a filling station near the Airport road roundabout.
Some youths informed the Vanguard that they had decided against protesting. “We will not protest again. Let business continue as usual. What our comrades did in other parts of the state and the country has clearly communicated our message to the federal government,” stated one youth, Josiah.
