The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has reported that voice and data services have been restored to 90 percent following disruptions caused by undersea cable cuts. This update was provided in a statement issued by Ruben Muoka, the director of public relations at NCC, on Monday.
On March 14, both banks’ services and telecommunications networks experienced disruptions due to the subsea cable cuts.
Muoka shared that 90 percent of the network has been repaired, with ongoing efforts to fully restore normalcy.
“After the disruption on March 14, 2024, which impacted data and voice services due to cuts in undersea fiber optics along the coasts of Cote d’Ivoire and Senegal, we are pleased to announce that services have now been restored to approximately 90% of their peak utilization capacities,” Muoka stated.
“All affected operators have utilized recovery capacity from unaffected submarine cables, enabling them to recover approximately 90% of their peak utilization capacities.
“Mobile Network Operators have confirmed to the Commission that data and voice services will function optimally until the undersea cables are fully repaired, as they have established alternative connections to restore normal operations.”
NCC expressed gratitude to telecom consumers for their patience and understanding during the downtime caused by the undersea fiber cuts.
