Bayobab Group, a subsidiary of MTN Group, has announced the successful restoration of its services after facing disruptions in the subsea cable network. This update was shared in a statement released by the telecom operator on Tuesday.
Despite the challenges posed by the cable disruptions, the subsidiary was able to quickly recover over 3 Terabits per second (Tbps) of capacity across its operational areas, showcasing its resilience and efficiency in handling such situations.
The statement highlighted, “On March 19, 2024, Bayobab Group, a subsidiary of MTN Group, successfully restored operations by recovering over 3 Terabits per second (Tbps) of capacity across our operational footprint. Despite the recent subsea cable disruptions on March 14, 2024, which presented challenges, we have proven our ability to maintain a robust network and effectively redirect traffic.”
During this challenging period, the focus remained on swiftly restoring services by activating new cables to enhance connectivity and establish alternative pathways, thereby reinforcing network resilience. This strategy underscores the commitment to ensuring network reliability and promptly reconnecting Africa and its customers, marking significant progress in reaching all valued customers.
Bayobab’s ecosystem enables secure and scalable global traffic within Africa and beyond, serving 19 MTN markets, third-party Mobile Network Operators, Technology corporations, and other Telecoms Service Providers, as stated by the company.
Recalling the recent incident, the undersea cable cuts that impacted broadband Internet connectivity in Nigeria and neighboring West African countries led to operational adjustments for banks, financial institutions, telecom companies, and related businesses.
On Monday, the Nigerian Communications Commission confirmed in a statement that services had been restored to nearly 90% of their peak utilization capacities post the disruption on March 14, 2024, caused by cuts in undersea fibre optics along the coasts of Cote d’Ivoire and Senegal.
