I have no plans to leave PDP – Ikpeazu

In a recent caucus meeting held at the new party secretariat in Umuahia, the immediate past Governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, reiterated his commitment to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and emphasized the need for unity among members to revitalize the party and regain its winning momentum.

Dr. Ikpeazu assured party members that he has no intention of leaving the PDP and emphasized his dedication to contributing to the party’s rebuilding process. He acknowledged that while some former aides and party chieftains may have chosen to join other political parties, he stressed the importance of individual accountability in the party’s performance during the 2023 elections.

Highlighting the significance of loyalty and sacrifice, Dr. Ikpeazu urged members to recognize the party’s past contributions to their political careers and emphasized the collective responsibility of all members in repositioning the PDP for future success.

The state PDP Chairman, Hon Asiforo Okere, expressed appreciation for the unwavering support of party members, particularly after the challenging 2023 elections. He noted the party’s continued strength in the state House of Assembly and announced the extension of elected ward executives’ tenures by three months in acting capacity. Additionally, three committees were formed to address Peace and Reconciliation, Way Forward, and Finance issues within the party.

Senator Austin Akobundu emphasized the resilience of the PDP in Abia State, describing it as a movement that cannot be extinguished by individual departures. Elder statesman Chief Onyema Ugochukwu called for unity within the party, emphasizing the need to move beyond blame games and focus on reinvigorating the party for future success.

The meeting was attended by key party figures including the immediate past Deputy Governor of Abia State, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, PDP governorship candidate Chief Okey Ahiwe, former and current members of the Abia State House of Assembly, and representatives from the National and State Working Committees, as well as other stakeholders. The collective message from the caucus emphasized the importance of unity, sacrifice, and repositioning the party to accommodate the contributions of younger members and ensure a strong leadership in the state.
